Interns and volunteers team up with a ranger of the organization and get exposed to as many facets as possible in the given time. There are over 20 species of animals, and 217 species of birds.
As an intern or volunteer you will work with the three Elephants at the organization, assist at the Meerkat Research Project, and participate in road maintenance, fencing and much more.
Assist with different projects, like:
– Research projects: monitoring animals, through trail cameras. Supervise their activities in progress and learn of their behavior.
– Conservation management: Assisting with maintenance of the area, helping a bee farming project, litter and clean up patrols, light maintenance of road and other crucial infrastructure.
– Additional conservation activities: assisting the communities with activities like cleaning, maintenance and helping outreach programme.
– Practical and theory: Participate in game drives, where you will learn how to track animals.
Get a hand-on-experience in conservation management, at this private game reserve. You will act as a ‘assistance conservation manager’ and all the work done and data collected will be utilized for conservation on the reserve. You will be stimulated with practical experience in the following area’s; Wildlife conservation research projects, Conservation management, Conservation education/theory and Community development. You will leave your time volunteering with a stronger understanding of conservation issues and the knowledge that you made an important contribution.
Follow your internship or volunteer with a non-profit organization whose focuses on reversing the decline of seabird populations through the rescue, rehabilitation and release of ill, injured, abandoned and oiled seabirds.
Some of the tasks you can expect to do:
The organization is located in Gansbaai and focuses on marine ecotourism, wildlife and conservation. Interns and Volunteers will be part of the crew, assisting clients on the boat who are taking part in the shark cage dive experience or going on a whale-watching tour. As an intern or volunteer, you will also be assisting on various aspects of Marine Dynamic`s research and commercial ventures.For those who want to make a meaningful contribution towards marine conservation in South Africa, it is an incredibly valuable program.
